Sumera Sahar

Sumera Sahar – Country Director, Pakistan

Sumera Sahar has been working with the Afghan community in Attock, Pakistan since 1995. She started teaching at Barakat’s Ersari Elementary School that same year and continued till 1997. She was then appointed as Principal and served in that role till 2004. In March 2004, she was promoted to the position of Country Director. Ms. Sahar has a vast experience in working with the Afghan Refugees, and understands the unique challenges, and is capable of resolving them.

Ms. Sahar received her Bachelor in Science degree with a Bachelor in Education from the University of Punjab. She is currently working on obtaining a Masters in Educational Planning and Management from Allama Iqbal Open University in Islamabad.As a country director for Barakat Pakistan, she is responsible for all aspects of the agency, including operations and management of the office in Attock, as well as Barakat’s schools and initiatives in Pakistan.

Farooq Mujadidi

Farooq Mujadidi – Country Director, Afghanistan

Farooq Mujadidi graduated from Kabul Education University with a degree in English language and Literature. Mr. Mujadidi then participated in an Internship Program for six months, where he had the opportunity to work with the European Union as Teaching Method Trainer where he trained teachers of TTC (Teacher Training centers). In 2006, Mr. Mujadidi joined Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) as a Human Resources and Admin Officer. Mr. Mujadidi has many years of experience in managing all Human Resources functions in diverse industries, including KGC, UNDP, and Ministry of Counter Narcotics in Afghanistan.With his interest and experience in Education sector and teacher training, he joined Barakat as a Country Director in 2012. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the agency, including operations and management of offices in Kabul and Northern Afghanistan, as well as Barakat’s schools and programs in Afghanistan.

Mia Buchsbaum

Mia Buchsbaum is a recent graduate of Emerson College where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Theatre with a concentration in Arts Management and a minor in Business. Mia first started with Barakat as an intern in the summer of 2012 and has been volunteering every fall with the Walk for Literacy. Outside of her work with Barakat she works at the Calderwood Pavillion at Boston Center for the Arts in the south end as a front of house staff member. Mia is excited to be continuing to work with Barakat to help raise funds for our programs in Pakistan and Afghanistan to help the organization continue to grow and continue to educate children.
