Deficits in rural Indian education exposed

Nicholas Kristof, an op-ed columnist for the New York Times, documents the sorry state of India’s rural schools, despite a continued boom in that country’s urban areas

In this investigative video, Kristof features a sixth-grade student who cannot write her own name as one example of the increasingly corrupt Indian education system. “It’s difficult to see how India can get very far unless it takes advantage of its untapped human resources in the rural parts of the country,” Kristof says. “Until India’s schools manage to teach students, this country won’t achieve a fraction of what it should.”
